Overview
Neerottam early-1980s Tamil romantic drama brings together Alex Pandian (credited as Thirumurugan), A. Vijaya Kanth, and Padmapriya in memorable lead roles. The story revolves around love, sacrifice, tragedy, and the unexpected turns life takes.
Kanmani, a hardworking and poor college girl, studies alongside the rich and soft-spoken Kannan and his cousin Kala. Kala secretly loves Kannan, but Kannan’s heart is set on Kanmani. However, Kanmani rejects his proposal and returns to her village, where her marriage is arranged with her childhood love, Kumar.
A tragic incident involving the rowdy Rangaiah causes Kumar to go missing, presumed dead. Pregnant and heartbroken, Kanmani later moves to the city for work—only to find that the MD of her office is none other than Kannan. Gossip leads Kannan to propose marriage to protect Kanmani, but on the day of the wedding, Kumar returns alive. In an emotional climax, Kannan sacrifices his love so that Kanmani and Kumar can reunite.
